Welcome Traveler!
Greetings and welcome to MOTEL HELL! A ghastly-garish gallery of some of the most beautifully retched and dismal vintage motel (and roadside eatery) postcards from the 1950's, 60's and 70's.I'm really not sure if anyone else out there will get into this blog, but I know I sure will. And the way I figure it, if you can at least make one person happy in life, it's all worth it! Even if that one person happens to myself.
Notes
With four other blogs and one website (so far) that I'm already publishing and maintaining (see my links section), this new one is merely a "side project", just for fun, that I'll work on in a deliberately part-time fashion. I'll add new stuff to it a little at a time, whenever I can -- or whenever I feel like it. It will not be a "daily" blog. I don't plan to post here everyday, as a rule. I'll try to post as often as I can, of course, but there will be no specific schedule at all to it.I think my minimum goal will be just to at least add new content once or twice a week. Could be more at times, could be less. I'll have to see. I'm making this clear up front so you'll at least know what to expect out of it (and what not to).
Focus
Now a bit about the trip of this gallery. While I'm mainly planning to focus on old motel postcards here, you'll also see a few other road-related things, when appropriate, thrown into the retro stew: hotels, inns, and motor lodges, as well as gaudy roadside eateries, lounges and such, too. And the dingier, tackier, and uglier the shot, the betterer!
My commentary on the postcards will be kept intentionally light and to a bare minimum usually, as I think the photos pretty much speak for themselves. Besides, that's what this collective is really meant to be anyway; a gallery. A visual (you can pronounce that viZual, if you want to, like me) experience!
Why?
Finally, why am I doing this? Because first, I just really dig these cool postcards, and I happen to be addicted to all things nostalgic.Second, because no other blog seems to be covering it. So I thought, hey, what the heck, it might be a fun theme to explore for a while. Actually, besides Blogs, I found no other Website doing it either. At least none doing exactly what I wanted to see, with the specific focus put mainly (and purposely) on the absolute trashiest, gaudiest-looking stuff that I love! Maybe that should be telling me something, huh? :) Eh, let's see where it goes.
So welcome weary traveler! I hope you enjoy your stay. And please remember, the guest's courteous comments here (and e-mails), are always warmly welcomed by the management of MOTEL HELL!
Your Host,
Keith Milford

Too cool! You have some tacky stuff here...great, isn't it? Like your other blogs, this takes me back to bygone days with my family, in this case vacations. Traveling across country, we didn't always get the nicest (or God forbid) cleanest motels. My brother and I could tell you about a few that would probably curl your hair! lol Wish we'd snapped a few pics of them. Vintage? Oh yeah. ;)
Have fun with this one!
Hello Keith. Great idea for a blog. I know I will be enjoying this blog. Your choice of subject matter, like with your other blogs, is simply delightful. I find myself relaxing by viewing your wonderful images at your various blogs. I'm a big Halloween fan, I love Xmas and Santa, and I'm a mall-rat too! Please don't tell anyone I'm 43 yrs old. Promise?
Best, Terry.

Keith just say the word, I have a ton of old images from local vintage motel postcards. I love this concept, you and I were definitely separated at birth. Haha!
Hi Keith, love all your blog ideas including this new one - grrreat & will be a regular visitor for sure. Good luck.
Man, first comments at a new blog are always so cool...feels kind of empty and lonely until you have some company. :) So thanks guys and welcome!!
Anonymous: always good to see you, my friend. You hang around all my blogs a lot and I do appreciate it. Hehe. (But seriously, thanks for the nice comments)
Terry: Thanks! And the way I look at it, digging on fun retro stuff like this is what can keep us all young (in spirit anyway)!
Jeff (my vintage kindred spirit): Thanks. And I'd love to see whatever you have! (tho I do have a LOT of these images, so there may be the possibility of overlapage). Feel free to e-mail me about it.
F: Great to see you here. Thanks! You continue to wow me daily at happy palace, man. Your digging of this new blog means a lot to me. :)
Stay tuned guys! More to come here later tonight...
I think I read all of your blogs daily by now, and this one is no different. Keep up the good work!
Thanks! I will certainly try to do that. :)
Hi Keith,
I stumbled upon your blog looking for vintage photos of five and dime stores. Your site is a portal to some really great memories. I've saved it in my favorites and whenever I need a serving of "Happy Place" I'll run right to your site. "Thanks For The Memories"

What would be great is to feature motels that are... still more or less like they were, today! There are certainly plenty of GEMS. One I came across was Motel 6 at Scottsdale, AZ (Phoenix) - right next to Fashion Square.
I love, love, LOVE this blog, truly. Being an anything-nostalgic buff, I can truly relate to the tacky and yet somehow comforting views of the past your cards provide. You have not added any new items in awhile, looking forward to new posts! Keep up the great work!
Hi Mr. Motel Hell!
Funny how I stumbled on your site, my mum sent me an old post card from1941 of the Olney Hotel in Maimi Beach (Olney is her maiden name). I Googled it and there is your terrific collection of tacky post cards, for which there is always a place in our hearts!
Actually we will visit Lucy the 'Elephant Hotel' in several weeks when we go downa shore to see the Grams. Thanks for the fun stuff.
Cheers, Suzi
