Merry Christmas!

The Log Cabin restaurant, Holyoke, Massachusetts - '50s or '60s

I'm taking a short Christmas break now, and will return after the new year--though I'll try to sneak in here (maybe a little bit anyway) later into next week. We'll see.

Thanks for your visits this year, and all the wonderful comments and e-mails, guys! It's been a blast to blog for ya in 2005, and 2006 will be even better! See my Santa and Me! blog for a more proper Christmas farewell, and I'll see you all again real soon! :)

Happy Holidays!
Keith

Sea Horse Motel

Margate City, New Jersey - 1960's

Blindingly gaudy, but still... quite nice if you know how to appreciate it! I'd make a pitsop here.

Motel Oral

Massena, New York - 1960's

Nope. Absolutely, positively no comment. I'm sure you're doing fine on your own.

La Siesta Motel

Brownsville, Texas - 1961

I think it speaks for itself.

Niagra Falls, Canada - 1950's

Could one's rest be anything but shady here?

Peach State Motel

Brunswick, Georgia - 1960's

A lemon in the Peach State! Ouch.

Road stop: Glass House Cafeteria

Vinita, Oklahoma - 1950's

A sight for sore eyes--and at this point, our eyes are pretty sore, huh? :) Rest your orbs for a few minutes in here before we move on to another of those monstrosities.

Boxwood Motel

Winchester, Virginia - 1950's

Poster child for MOTEL HELL if ever there was one. Actually, Hell just might be a little more inviting, I'm not sure...

Bel Plaza Motel

Banff, Alberta, Canada - 1960's

From postcard: "One of Banff's newest and most modern hotels"

Yep, when you think "modern hotel", it usually does include huge grazing wild bull elk on the lawn outside your door.

Classic.

Wahweap Lodge and Marina

Page, Arizona - '60s or '70s

From postcard: "Just off Hwy. 89, 4 miles West of Glen Canyon Dam on the shores of beautiful Lake Powell. New, ultra modern ind. controlled electric heating and refrigerated air conditioning. Room phones, TV. Enjoy fishing, boating, swimming, and sightseeing in this breathtaking wonderland. A complete marina. Boat tours available."

Check out the view you got of the Grand Canyon outside your balcony, too! Wow. That's dang cool.

Carefree Inn

Phoenix, Arizona - 1960's (I think)

Nightcap poolside, in a sunbleached Phoenix suburb. Cool drinks, cool pool, bring welcomed relief as the blazing Arizona sun sinks down into the horizon. You can just see a bit of the sunset in the upper-left corner.

Olney Inn Restaurant

Olney, Maryland - 1957

Olympic Motor Lodge Motel

Hauppauge, New York - 1970's
