Roadstop! McDonald's

Postmarked Florida - 1964
Anyone up for a vintage Filet-o'-Fish sangwitch? MMMmmm! Don't it look tastey?
This is an actual 1964 advertising postcard (believe it or not) for the Filet-o'-Fish Sandwich McDonald's was just introducing new at the time.
Kinda' looks OK...till you start staring at that ugly, yellow-green sauce oozing down the sides. Ugh.
Back of PC reads: "Free! Excitingly New--Invitingly Yours! Please Be Our Guest....Just present this card at the McDonald's nearest you. It entitles you to one of our delightfully new Filet-o'-Fish Sandwiches. It's our way of acquainting you with the tastiest fish in all the land!"
Looks more like the nastiest fish in all the land.
And by the way, at this point in 1964, as the card reads, they were only at "more than a BILLION sold", if anyone's wondering.

The good ol fillet o' fish...still rocks on. lol
Shots like this explain why there is a need for food cosmetics.
Yeah, Anonymous, actually I love 'em! Probably wouldn't if they looked like this, though. Heh. And the BK Big Fish at Burger king is good, too--although it used to rock way harder when it was like twice the size it is now. They made it smaller (yet raised the price!) a few years back. :(
And, Cora, you're so right about that! This is all the proof you need.
Tasty...
What's that stuff on top?
I bet it glows in the dark real purty like.
Thank goodness for photo enhancement technology...food usually looks much tastier in ads than in real life, but this is an interesting and rare case of how the opposite is true.

ugh... UGH!!!
Sadly today's "Filet o' Fish" is a sad parody of that one pictured, which used to be a solid chunk of thinly-breaded cod or other white fish, rather than a chopped and formed "mystery fish" laden with mostly stale oily breading, the actual fish only half as thick.
The sauce then was merely a dollop of real Tartar sauce, (melted from the heat — and yes they were piping hot when served). They often ran out of them on Friday's!
I'd rather eat the box the Big Mac comes in.
These old postcards work great as the desktop image on computers. This yummy fillet of fish postcard is on my laptop desktop. Every time I boot up, I get a hankerin' for a FoF.
